Video Series: The Journey
A new series that explores truth, vulnerability, simplicity and love. Art is one of the few places that we can really dig deep to places that often make others feel uncomfortable because it is stripped of all pretence. It reminds us, however scary, that everything we have built up around us is a facade and, in fact, we are all equal in our beauty and fragility, and all require love.
A dream about a comedy club coupled with a long sense of something missing from the world of art led me to begin this series of short films. It is in search of truth. Unearthing it wherever we find its resonance.
The Journey involves the brainstorming, writing, performing, filming, and editing of each film.

Love knows no logic. Spoken from the gut. Relief in release. Faced misconceptions and misunderstandings. The other point of view. A radically wayward perspective? In art, mistakes are not erased. We leave them as a reminder of the journey we are on.
When I listen closely for the resonance, the message is not in the details. It is a metaphor with many layers. Each time I think I’ve reached the final meaning, I discover another. A community in grief…a lost friendship…my mother’s death..my own aloneness…a discovery of truth…a letting go…moving love to the unseen, the unheard, and the unreached.

Completely new to film, it is currently a steep learning process, one in which I have had the help of the DTES Small Arts Grants and Digital Stories to help get me started on this exciting journey. There are heavy technical difficulties such as inability to focus a lens properly, waves displacing the tripod, and script editing issues. Footage was expertly editing by Digital Stories. Like any journey, I will keep the flaws to mark the beginning of this new medium..
