Each day I would wander up to San Miniato, a Benedictian Monastary, for their afternoon mass when I lived in Florence, Italy. They were conducted entirely in Italian with Benedictian Chants. The monks would sit in a caged section in the front, each separated by a partition from the other. It was during this time that I thought about their secluded lives from each other within a secluded community. Cell is comprised of a group of 5 monks each with their own “cell” or canvas.
